This website set up for anyone wanting to know Information about what our Cub Section provides and Information for all Parents of any new and Current Parents of our young members

Our Cub Pack is the third oldest section in our Scout Group following on from our new section Squirrels (proposed start in September 5.30pm to 6.30pm) and meet on a Thursday from 7pm to 8.30pm.

The Core Age for the Cub Section is 8 to 10 1/2 Years Old. Due to Flexibility they can start after 7 1/2 Years Old and must leave before they are 11 Years Old

Activities your child will do whilst in Cub Scouting

Scouting has a massive selection of Activities available. Lots of these are seasonal and some that can be done all year round.

All these Activities go towards Badges and Awards. There is more information about these on this page.
However these Activities are only possible with the all the regular Adults and help from parental support.

Were we Meet

Our Main Meeting Place

Located on the outskirts of Melton Mowbray and only 3 to 4 minutes extra travelling time past our old meeting venue John Ferneley College, the Ironstone Lodge located at Holwell Pastures Scout Campsite is a fantastic facility for our Cub Pack. We also have access to a large outdoor space. The gravel area all year round and the fields more during the Summer Term and September.
With the new Pork Pie Way now opened will make getting to the Campsite even quicker and sure more accessible for a lot of people.

With the unavailability of John Ferneley in April 2021. We was fortunate to have the availability of the Campsite for our regular evening meetings once we returned to face to face Sessions after the Covid Pandemic.

In October 2021 seeing the benefits of what the campsite could offer to enable a better Scouting Experience for our Young Members “during this period” we choose to make the Campsite our Regular meeting Place.

Also on occasions we do also meet at different Locations throughout the Year
In September 2025 the Car Park has had a hardcore resurfacing. This means no more muddy footwear during the Winter Months which has been fantastic and beneficial for everyone

Summer 2026 (Letter to Parents)

Dear Parents

Just letting everyone know the current situation regarding adults running the Cub Pack on a Thursday.

The Cub Section currently has 3 regular and 1 occasional Adult.

Because of how we structure the nights when meeting at the Ironstone Lodge we really need 4 Adults on each night. Ideally 2 Adults with Approximately 10 to 15 in a Group.

With this in mind it does unfortunately mean that in the new year there could always be a chance that a Cub Thursday Night would be Cancelled if suddenly an adult is unable to attend and the other two adults are not happy to run a Cub Night.

A slight Adult shortage does happen from time to time as we have experienced in our many years of being in Scouting. To date, we have never had to Cancelled a night due to not enough Adults.

As Adult Volunteers we do the very best for the Cubs but without the extra support from Parents and other Adults we cannot offer all of the Activities that we would like to offer for the Cubs. We also want and need to ensure that we run our Nights / Activities in a safe environment for all the Cubs

Some of you can't help which we understand due to many reasons, and some don't know until the Start of that week or only on the day about being available to help. This is something that we totally appreciated.

So what are we going to do ?.

Firstly we are going to start up a Weekly Parent Rota for every Week on a Thursday Evening. The Parent rota can be viewed on ……

Our Adult to Child Ratio is 1 Adult to 8 Cubs for Off - Site Activities plus the Adult Leader in Charge, and we get fantastic support for any off - Site Activities.

Whether we have 25 or 32 Cubs we still need the same minimum amount of Adults for any Off - Site Activities.
